Carbon Reduction Plan

Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Better Days UK is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions from its UK operations by 2050 at the latest.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been prepared to establish Better Days UK’s formal carbon-management framework and to support transparent reporting and continuous reduction of emissions associated with our operations and service delivery.

Energy and Carbon Management:

Better Days operates from leased premises. Electricity and other building utilities are procured and paid for by the landlord and Better Days UK does not currently receive separately metered consumption information. Accordingly, independently attributable energy-consumption data is not presently available. Better Days UK will request suitable annual energy or apportioned consumption information from its landlord for future reporting cycles.

Better Days UK is a community healthcare provider. Clinical staff predominantly travel to service locations by public transport or bicycle rather than by car. Where cars are utilized, we promote the use of electric or hybrid vehicles for service delivery and employee travel. Business travel is minimal, and the organisation supports hybrid working, including one homeworking day per week where roles permit.

Waste and Resource Management:

  • Implement recycling and waste reduction programs at all operational sites
  • Minimise single-use plastics and promote sustainable resource use
  • Educate staff and participants about waste reduction and responsible consumption

 Sustainable Procurement Practices:

  • Embed environmental and ethical criteria into procurement processes
  • Establish partnerships with suppliers who demonstrate sustainable and ethical practices

Carbon reduction projects and environmental management measures

The following environmental management measures are already in place and will be applied when performing public-sector contracts:

  • Public transport and active travel: clinicians are encouraged to use public transport, walking and cycling for travel to schools, clinics and other service locations wherever practical.
  • Minimising business travel: meetings are held virtually where this is clinically and operationally appropriate, reducing unnecessary journeys while maintaining service quality.
  • Hybrid working: eligible staff can work from home one day per week, reducing commuting and office occupancy requirements.
  • Local workforce deployment: where practicable, clinicians will be allocated geographically to reduce unnecessary cross-area travel between education and community settings.
  • Digital-first administration: electronic records, digital communication and virtual meetings will be used where appropriate to minimise printing, paper consumption and physical document transport.
  • Energy data improvement: Better Days UK will request annual energy-consumption or reasonable apportionment data from its landlord and explore options for improved visibility of leased-premises energy use.
  • Travel data collection: business travel will be recorded centrally by mode and distance.
  • Waste monitoring: Better Days UK will work with its landlord and suppliers to obtain available waste data, improve segregation and recycling, and minimise avoidable single-use materials where clinically appropriate.
  • Procurement: environmental considerations will increasingly be incorporated into purchasing decisions, including preference for lower-waste, reusable, durable and responsibly sourced products where consistent with clinical requirements.
  • Annual review: carbon performance, data quality, reduction measures and targets will be reviewed at least annually by senior leadership and the Carbon Reduction Plan will be updated and republished.
